Thanks to KA9LXP for sharing information on making Hustler Mast.
I made two different masts using this method. One with standard Hustler MO specifications 54″ length. Second, I made the mast in two 3 foot sections for easy storage when not in use. Total length of Mast 6 Foot.
Material needed
- 6 foot 1/2″ copper pipe
- 1/2″ copper end caps
- 3/8×1″ fine thread hex head bolts
- 3/8″ fine thread hex nuts
Step 1. File the head of 3/8×1″ hex bolt – so that it
Step 2. Drill a 3/8″ hole in the end of each end cap
Step 3. Insert bolt with head inside the cap. Put nut on the bolt to grab bolt to end cap. This will make it easier to solder the bolt head to end cap.
Step 4. After soldering, use the nut still on bolt to cut the excess bolt length.
Step 5: Solder the end cap (assembled with bolt) to the copper pipe. Repeat on the other side.
